GM Rustam Kasimdzhanov:
"However, it is impossible to say about Ivan’s performance that it was all sheer luck because he really lost some points. Generally, his victory was well deserved.
One of the favorites in the tournament, Alexei Shirov, scored only +1 after seven rounds though he played better than anyone else according to Evgeny Bareev. It just happens so – Shirov is a player rated above 2700, and every participant tried his best when playing against him. Even Dizdarevic, who played miserably, recollected himself and obtained a draw against Shirov. That is why Alexei was pleased with wins in two last games, which made his overall result corresponding to his rating.
Bareev, another candidate for the first place, suffered three defeats and scored only 50 per cents of the points. However, my impression was that he was not especially discouraged by that. Perhaps, Evgeny wanted to experiment in some strong but not official competition and he played strictly for win with any color of pieces. Generally, such a behavior is not characteristic for him.
Radzhabov’s play is rather controversial. On one hand, one should expect better performance from a player who is being invited to Linares and other major competitions. On the other hand, Teimur’s play produces quite a good impression, if one forgets about his start status. His drawbacks – poor preparation in the opening and excessive optimism in position evaluation – must be surmounted in the due time.
Movsesian, who shared the second place, obtained some suspicious positions. Sergei is known as a lucky player, but it is just impossible for one to benefit from one’s luck permanently. He’s got such a style. Being a rather successful defender and he never loses his spirit in some difficult positions. Thanks to that he obtains points. In that way he defeated Bareev.
The tournament was some what strange for me: I experienced time troubles and admitted a lot of miscalculations. This was especially correct description of my game against Bareev.
There was a dinner party held on the day off, attended by the president of Bosna club and other officials. In the end of June Bosna will take part in the national championship despite the team obtained a right for participation in the European team tournament as the last year winner. However, according to the regulations a player can play for the team in the national championship only after having played not less than two games in the national championship. Therefore, Bosna will retain its composition completely".
