Schwarzach (Austria)
[Zimmerman - Carlsen] In the post-game analysis I had an impression of a complete masterpiece without a single odd stroke! Magnus drawn his games against GMs Shchekachev, Hertneck and Mikhail Ivanov. He lost only to Robert Zelcic and beat everyone else. I think, we shall hear about him later… In round 7, Mikhail Umansky beat Hertneck, who was the sole leader by then. In round 8 he won again and the concluding draw against Shchekachev allowed him to occupy the first place, scoring a point ahead of other players. It was the same Umansky, who played in Russia junior team in 60s! He obtained a master title early but, being an inhabitant of Pyatigorsk, switched to the correspondence chess and even won the world title! Four years ago, Mikhail immigrated to Germany and obtained every opportunity to play chess more frequently. Technical results: 1.M.Umansky - 7.5 points of 9 2-8. Hertneck, Shchekachev, M.Carlsen, Y.Zimmerman, Krivosheya, Kunin, M.Ivanov - 6.5 of 9, etc. When players scored equal number of points, they obtained prizes according to a strange system: money was shared correspondingly to their Buchgoltz coefficient. |
